From
July
15 to August 3, we traveled over
2500 miles and visited Yakima and Spokane, in Washington, Salmon
and Coeur d'Alene, in Idaho, and Troy, in Montana. Even though the
temperature was over 100 degrees most of the time and the schedule
was packed, many Chautauquans feel that this year's tour was one
of our best.
Parades
- Salmon,
IDa festive Everybody's Welcome parade down the main street
with our marching band and performers.
- Troy,
MTa lively and colorful preshow parade around Roosevelt
Park with our marching band, performers, one of our beautiful
giant puppets and many enthusiastic audience members.
- Troy,
MTan impromptu parade through a local supermarket that brought
smiles to shoppers and employees.
- Coeur
d'Alene, IDa dynamite Samba Carnival-type revelry with 300
local children, as part of the Art On the Green Festival.

This
year, the workshops included:

Community Shows
- Juvenile
Detention Centers in Yakima, WA and Coeur d'Alene, ID samba
drumming, magic and juggling workshops with 80 kids. Kids who
were in workshops were invited to be part of the vaudeville show
that took place in the facilities.
- Inner
City OutreachSpokane, WAa show and workshops at four
middle schools. The summer program, Hubs, serves over 400 children,
many from financially challenged families.
- Senior
Center in Salmon, IDa performance for elders at the Discovery
Care Center.
Community Quilt Donation
A
total of 48 Baby Quilts were donated to the Epic Crisis Nursery
and YMCA Crisis Center in Yakima (29), Women's Helpline in Libby,
Montana (12) and Mahoney House in Salmon (7). These quilts will
go to children in need.

Benefit performance
The
show in Troy, MT was a benefit performance for the Troy School Arts
Program and Friends of the Hot Club. The Friends of the Hot Club
supports cultural growth in the Troy area.
